# Website embed

> Configure browser access, website placements and the installation snippet in the console.

Open **Developers → Website embed** to connect a website without building a recommendation backend. The embed displays items and records engagement using a publishable key.

## Set up a website

1. Choose the workspace that owns the website's catalogue.
2. Create a publishable key and allow the site's origins, including any staging origin you will use for testing. An origin includes the scheme and host, such as `https://shop.example.com`.
3. Select the default context and configure the placements your pages need. Use a related-items context on a product page and a discovery context on the homepage.
4. Copy the generated installation snippet into your site, or use the platform installation instructions.
5. Open a real page, verify that items render, then check **Data → Events** for views and clicks.

The [Website embed guide](https://docs.neuronsearchlab.com/embed.md) is the full reference for installation, HTML attributes, the JavaScript API, styling, consent and debugging. Keep your site's code aligned with that guide.

## What to check before launch

| Check | Why it matters |
| - | - |
| Allowed origins include your production domain | Unrecognised sites cannot use your key |
| Items have usable titles, destination URLs and images | The embed needs display metadata as well as ranking data |
| Each placement uses the intended context | A product rail and a homepage feed usually need different ranking |
| Views and clicks reach the correct event types | Those signals drive personalisation and measurement |
| Consent matches your site's requirements | Configure collection before tracking visitors |

A publishable key can appear in page source. Client secrets and Platform API keys cannot. If a key must be replaced, update the installed snippet and verify the replacement before revoking the old key.
