This reference covers the package’s Core API and administration profiles, plus hosted onboarding tools. Connect using ChatGPT and MCP. Availability varies by version: inspect your client’s live tool list before calling a tool. In the table below, public means local Core API mode, admin means local internal mode, and hosted means the hosted administration profile. Inputs use the names shown here, which may differ from SDK camelCase names. Structured objects follow the relevant Core API or Platform API contract. Required fields are marked required; other listed fields are optional. The live input schema provides nested fields and validation constraints.

Core and administration tools

get_recommendations

Fetch personalised recommendations for a user through the hosted console bridge. Serving a result records attribution and metering data and returns a request_id for subsequent events. Available: public, local, hosted.

get_recommendation_sets

Fetch every recommendation rail of a page in one request (POST /v1/recommendations/batch). Each set is billed on its own and returns its own request_id — pass the matching one to track_event for interactions on that rail. A set that fails reports its own error without failing the others. Available: public, local.

get_auto_recommendations

Fetch one auto-generated recommendation section for a user through the hosted console bridge. Serving a section records attribution and metering data and preserves section, next_cursor, and done response metadata. Available: public, local, hosted.

track_event

Record a user interaction event (click, view, purchase, etc.), or a search. Always pass the request_id from the recommendations call to enable attribution. Event IDs are configured in the NeuronSearchLab admin console under Events. To record a search, send query (and optionally result_item_ids) with no item_id: it steers the user’s recommendations by the weight of the Search event. Available: public.

upsert_item

Add or update an item in the recommendation catalogue. The description field is used to generate the embedding — write it to be rich and descriptive. Use metadata for structured attributes (category, price, tags) that are returned with recommendations. Available: public.

patch_item

Partially update an existing item. Most commonly used to enable (active: true) or disable (active: false) an item without re-uploading the full catalogue entry. Available: public.

delete_items

Permanently remove one or more items from the recommendation catalogue. This cannot be undone. To temporarily exclude items, use patch_item with active: false instead. Available: public.

search_items

Search the recommendation catalogue by keyword. Returns matching items with their IDs, names, descriptions, and status. Useful for looking up specific items before updating or removing them. Available: public, local, hosted.

explain_ranking

Explain why a specific item was (or would be) ranked at a particular position for a user. Returns a score breakdown showing embedding similarity and applied rules, plus a pipeline trace showing which stages passed or failed. Available: public, local, hosted.

get_account_plan

Get the authenticated team’s current billing plan, resolved resource limits, live resource counts, metered usage, and exact overages. Always call this first when the user asks to clean up plan-limit overages, reduce usage to plan limits, or check remaining capacity. Available: local, hosted. No input fields.

list_contexts

List all recommendation contexts (feeds) configured for your team. Contexts define how recommendations are scoped, filtered, and grouped. Available: local, hosted. No input fields.

create_context

Create a new recommendation context (feed). A context defines a feed surface — e.g. a homepage feed, a “you may also like” section, or a search assist panel. After creating a context, create a pipeline and optionally rules to control ranking. Available: local, hosted.

update_context

Update an existing recommendation context. Available: local, hosted.

delete_context

Delete a recommendation context. This also removes associated pipelines and rules. Available: local, hosted.

list_pipelines

List all ranking pipelines. Pipelines define the sequence of stages (candidate generation, scoring, rules, post-processing) that transform raw candidates into a ranked feed. Available: local, hosted. No input fields.

create_pipeline

Create a new ranking pipeline with default stages. Optionally attach it to a context. The pipeline starts active by default. Available: local, hosted.

update_pipeline

Update an existing ranking pipeline. Available: local, hosted.

delete_pipeline

Delete a ranking pipeline. Available: local, hosted.

list_rules

List ranking rules, optionally filtered by context. Rules modify the ranking output — boost, bury, pin, filter, cap, or diversify items. Available: local, hosted.

create_rule

Create a new ranking rule. Rule types: boost (increase score), bury (decrease score), pin (fix position), filter (remove items), cap (limit fraction), diversity (spread categories). Each rule has conditions (which items match) and an action (what to do). Available: local, hosted.

update_rule

Update an existing ranking rule. Available: local, hosted.

delete_rule

Delete a ranking rule. Available: local, hosted.

toggle_rule

Enable or disable a ranking rule without deleting it. Available: local, hosted.

get_context

Get the full configuration of a specific recommendation context by ID. Available: local, hosted.

get_pipeline

Get the full configuration of a specific ranking pipeline by ID. Available: local, hosted.

activate_pipeline

Activate a ranking pipeline so it begins serving ranked results. Available: local, hosted.

deactivate_pipeline

Deactivate a ranking pipeline so it stops serving results without being deleted. Available: local, hosted.

clone_pipeline

Duplicate an existing pipeline with all its stages and configuration. Useful for creating experiment variants or safe copies before making changes. Available: local, hosted.

get_rule

Get the full configuration of a specific ranking rule by ID, including conditions and action. Available: local, hosted.

enable_rule

Enable a ranking rule that was previously disabled. Available: local, hosted.

disable_rule

Disable a ranking rule without deleting it. Useful for temporarily pausing rules during debugging or campaigns. Available: local, hosted.

list_segments

List all user segments. Segments group users by shared behaviours or attributes and can be referenced in rules and campaigns. Available: local, hosted. No input fields.

get_segment

Get the full definition of a specific user segment, including all its conditions. Available: local, hosted.

create_segment

Create a new user segment with membership conditions. Condition types: behavioral (purchase/click history), demographic (age, location), computed (ML scores), item_interaction (affinity to categories or items). Example: power users who purchased 3+ times in 30 days. Available: local, hosted.

update_segment

Update an existing user segment definition. Available: local, hosted.

delete_segment

Delete a user segment. Any rules referencing this segment will need to be updated. Available: local, hosted.

list_experiments

List all A/B experiments with their current status (draft, running, paused, completed). Available: local, hosted. No input fields.

get_experiment

Get the full configuration of a specific A/B experiment including variants, traffic splits, and current metrics. Available: local, hosted.

create_experiment

Create a new A/B experiment comparing pipeline variants. Specify 2+ variants with traffic fractions summing to 1.0. Each variant can point to a different pipeline_id. Start it with start_experiment after creating. Available: local, hosted.

update_experiment

Update an experiment that is in draft status. Available: local, hosted.

start_experiment

Start an A/B experiment. Traffic will begin splitting between variants immediately. The experiment moves from draft to running status. Available: local, hosted.

stop_experiment

Stop a running A/B experiment and mark it as completed. Results are preserved for analysis. Available: local, hosted.

get_experiment_results

Get the most recently calculated statistical results for a completed or running experiment without changing stored data. Available: local, hosted.

refresh_experiment_results

Recalculate experiment metrics from current recommendation and event data, store the refreshed metrics, and return the updated experiment results. Available: local, hosted.

list_training_jobs

List recent model training jobs with their status (running, completed, failed). Training jobs re-train the ranking model on new interaction data. Available: local, hosted. No input fields.

get_training_job

Get a customer-facing status summary for a specific training job without returning infrastructure identifiers or raw logs. Available: local, hosted.

create_training_job

Start a model training job from an existing template. This consumes training quota and may incur usage charges; auto-promotion options can replace the model serving live traffic. Available: local, hosted.

cancel_training_job

Cancel a running training job. Available: local, hosted.

get_ranking_metrics

Get ranking performance metrics for a pipeline or context: CTR by position, overall CTR, conversion rate, diversity score, catalogue coverage, and revenue per session. Available: local, hosted.

create_event_type

Create a new event type that can be tracked in the recommendation model. The value (0–100) controls how much weight this signal has during training. Available: local, hosted.

update_event_type

Update an existing event type’s name or weight. Use list_event_types first to find the event_id. Available: local, hosted.

delete_event_type

Permanently delete an event type. This cannot be undone. Existing tracked events referencing this type will remain in the database but the type definition will be removed. Available: local, hosted.

list_platform_routes

List the internal admin-console API routes that the standalone MCP can reach in internal mode. Use this when the user asks for a UI capability that does not have a dedicated MCP tool yet. Available: local.

call_platform_api

Fallback tool for internal mode only. Calls safe admin-console /api routes directly when no dedicated MCP tool exists. Prefer dedicated tools first, and use list_platform_routes when unsure which route to call. Available: local.

Hosted onboarding tools

These tools help a connected customer try sample data and connect a real catalogue. They are additional to the npm package profiles.

Compatibility notes

The local public profile includes explain_ranking, but its compatibility route is separate from the documented Core API reference. Use the hosted or local administration profile for the supported Platform API explainability workflow. Recommendation tools create usage and attribution records. Tools that create, update, delete, enable, disable, activate, start, stop or record data can affect the selected workspace. Keep the assistant’s instructions explicit about whether to inspect or apply changes.
