A page often shows several rails at once: “For you”, “Similar items”, “Trending near you”. Each rail is its own context, ranked independently, so the same item can turn up in two of them. A context group adds rules that apply across the rails of one page. Group rules apply when a page asks for the group’s rails together in one request: the batch endpoint, the embed, or an SDK’s getRecommendationSets(). Rails requested one at a time are not affected.

Create a group

1

Open Contexts

Go to Relevance → Contexts and select New group.
2

Name it

Name it after the page, such as “Homepage”, and add an optional description.
3

Add rails

Add contexts from the list, or drag them onto the group in the contexts table.
4

Order the rails

Drag rails into priority order. The rail at the top claims items first.
5

Choose the rules

Turn on the rules below and save.

Group rules

Exempt rails

Mark a rail as exempt when it should ignore the group rules, such as a “Recently viewed” rail that is meant to repeat items. An exempt rail may repeat items, and the items it shows do not count against the other rails.

Removing a group

Select Delete group in the group’s settings. Its contexts stay as they are, in no group.
